Vainglorious popinjay! Oh truly hilarious. We may well believe our
colleagues to be incompetent and foolish on the odd occasion, but
for our hopeful meritocrat to refer to their failings in public
is probably unwise. Especially as The Mysterious Mystery of the
Mischievous Mistress has not yet been satisfactorily sleuthed. Arrogant
in the extreme and barkingly retro on abortion and consent, we shan't
miss him as he inevitably slithers backbenchward.

Christmas
My gorgeous and lovely partner is Christmas-mad-obsessed
and over a period of years, I have finally given myself wholeheartedly
over to the love and glory of all that is festive. Even the word
*festive* is exciting. But renaming Christmas parties as festive
parties? I don't think so. We've been hosting and toasting all things
Christmassy for centuries and some barking loony-wing feminist-councillor-types
will not be persuading us here to host a festive party. Tips and
tricks for apolitical parties:

Come Dancing
I voted for Julian about 50 times. Yes, I need to get a
life, but then many of my friends and colleagues need to do the
very same. I know of couples reluctant to go out on Saturday nights
who planned to leave just after the first show and arrive just before
the second, fully prepared to leverage their hosts into putting
the telly on. If you'd have told me a year ago I'd be watching a
ballroom dancing programme on the TV on a *Saturday* night I would
have larfed and larfed. Now there's a Christmas special! Hoorah!
And one on ice! Oh dear, too much excitement...

They were British until the Russians bought them. I have
