FAQs
7. How do I establish the costs involved and what about
payment terms?
Obviously, for many clients in the community sector, monies available
for internet projects are determined by their funders. It may well
be therefore, that you know exactly how much you have to play with,
but less sure about how much you can expect to receive in return!
As a starting point, talk to other organisations who have already
gone through the process and establish how much they spent and what
they actually got for their money. Ask for references and then phone
up the design companies involved - they will be unlikely to be able
to give you a quote over the phone, but will normally be able to
offer you a ballpark figure if you can be reasonably specific about
what it is you want. For example, be clear about what functionalities
you need.
Most design companies operate payment schedules that are fairly
flexible for community sector clients. Often they are tied in to
project milestones, so for example, the ACME Design Company might
get 25% upfront, 25% on completion of the design and research phase
and the rest on delivery of the project. For larger projects, there
might be quite a detailed payment schedule.
If you have specific funding rquirements, talk this through with
the design company involved, Normally, we are very accommodating!
Remember also that under certain circumstances, your
organisation might get work done in-kind or at the very least,
free hosting.
Redmoth normally offers free hosting for the
first year to the majority of it's public-sector clients. Phone
us on 0208 768 1888 for more details.
